Find your Mulank
What is a Mulank?
Mulank, also called the root number or birth number, is a single digit from 1 to 9 taken from the day of the month you were born. In Vedic numerology, each digit is linked to one of the nine grahas, and that planet is said to colour your temperament and the way you approach life.
Only the day counts. The month and year are not used for Mulank. They are added to find a different number, the Bhagyank or destiny number.
How to calculate it
Add the digits of your birth day until a single digit remains. If you were born on a single-digit day, that digit is your Mulank.
- Born on the 7th: Mulank is 7
- Born on the 23rd: 2 + 3 = 5, so Mulank is 5
- Born on the 29th: 2 + 9 = 11, then 1 + 1 = 2, so Mulank is 2

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Mulank and Bhagyank?
Mulank comes only from the day you were born. Bhagyank, or the destiny number, comes from adding every digit of your full birth date, including the month and year.
Which planet rules each Mulank?
Mulank 1 is ruled by the Sun, 2 by the Moon, 3 by Jupiter, 4 by Rahu, 5 by Mercury, 6 by Venus, 7 by Ketu, 8 by Saturn and 9 by Mars.
Does Mulank change during my life?
No. It comes from your birth date, so it stays the same. What changes over time is your Dasha, the planetary period you are moving through.
